Jack Kerouac breaking it down....

I am totally convinced it would have been simply divine to have been alive in the '60s because of the wealth of talent that popular artists back then shared with us....Jack Kerouac was definitely a cool cat....

PRIZM Creative Community presents a Watercolor Workshop with artist instructor Dr. Arthur Mancini

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRIZM Creative Community invites both members and non-members to a Watercolor Workshop with artist instructor Dr. Arthur Mancini at the Schaller Memorial Building, 130 West Indiana Ave., Perrysburg starting Thursday March 9, 2011 and meeting weekly through March 31. Separate 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm afternoon and 6:00 to 9:00 pm evening sessions are planned. However, if the afternoon session does not have a minimum enrollment of eight students by the March 6th deadline, only evening instruction will be available.

Cost for either four week session is $55 for PRIZM members and $70.00 for guests. Individuals can state their preference for attendance time, leave their contact information for class preparation, and receive a supply list by contacting Workshop Chairman Kitty Pattay @ 419-874-5210. Electronic registration is also available on the PRIZM website @ http://www.myprizm.com/.

No prior experience is needed, and participants will learn the basics and principles of watercolor application techniques without struggling with detailed drawing. Teacher supplied patterns given prior to class will become a tool in practicing and perfecting application techniques learned in each session. Each class begins with a demonstration after which Dr. Mancini is available to give individualized help and instruction. Students will spend a two week session on landscape, and 2 weeks on a floral study. Participants taking four sessions will complete two projects.

Art Mancini is a semi-retired urological surgeon of 44 years, whose office had been at the Toledo Clinic. He was involved in teaching resident physicians for about 37 years and currently has been teaching watercolor classes and tutoring 2nd and 3rd graders in the inner city.

Dr. Mancini’s avocation of watercolor painting started with taking classes at the Museum and Lourdes College with Walter Chapman. He has been painting in watercolors for about 30 years and had shown in the Museum's community area for several years along with many other physicians of the Academy of Medicine. He is known as the "flower doctor" because he has specialized in painting flowers as well as cottages. He has also done a series of Saugatuck and Douglas, Michigan cottages and historical buildings.

PRIZM Creative Community is a 501 c. 3 nonprofit organization currently receiving partial funding from the Ohio Arts Council and Toledo Community Foundation. For more information on upcoming PRIZM educational workshops in the visual and literary arts visit our website @ http://www.myprizm.com/.http://www.myprizm.com/, email prizm@bex.net or call 419-931-8731.

"An Idiot Abroad:India" on the Science Channel

The show "An Idiot Abroad" is hilarious yet disturbing! Karl Pilkington is very funny in the way he ascertains what is going on around him while travelling.

After watching this episode the other night, I am sooooooo happy that I do not live in India- it's not even funny! How absurd is it, to have to sleep and work in a little cubicle space everyday, without access to a toilet? Also, the elephant baba is just a tad scary!

I highly recommend watching this show. It is humorous but also shows you the intentionally overlooked cultural aspects of the places he visits. It airs on Saturdays at 10:00 pm.

Valentine's Day dinner at Poco Piatti

Last night, I ate at Poco Piatti (located at 3155 Chappel Dr, Perrysburg, OH 43551) with my husband for Valentine's Day and it was delish! I tried a couple of the mid-east appetizers, "Artichoke and Hearts of Palm" and "Mujadara", and they were very tasty. Since it was my first time eating artichoke and hearts of palm, I was a little apprehensive about ordering it but I was pleasantly surprised with how tender and juicy it was when I ate it.

For the main meal, I ordered "Salmon Primavera" and my husband ordered "Lamb Shank Osso Buco" (which is one of those things you would see being prepared on the television show Top Chef) and needless to say they were also delectable. What a wonderful place to have a romantic dinner!

Red Fez Publications Releases 31st Issue Online

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FEZLAND. Sunday, February 13, 2011-- Red Fez is back with its second monthly issue. Now with more madcap than ever before, this issue features videos from Peter Schwartz and the Red Fez Janitor guy, Brian Fugett of Zygote in my Coffee.

Red Fez was well represented at this year's Snoetry event in Elyria, Ohio. Lynn Alexander, special correspondent and Red Fez Fiction Editor Extraordinaire, phoned in a live report from the event to Tim Murray at Red Fez Radio #5. Janitor dude, Brian Fugett, was on the scene taking video footage when he wasn't busy tying up the phone lines for the first all-call-in Red Fez Radio. Two of these videos make their appearance in this issue. Look for more of these stunning videos on Red Fez and Zygote in my Coffee.

Negotiations are pending with Fiction Editor Slacker, Andy Meisenheimer. He claims to have busted his knee in the employee lounge at the close of the last issue. Nevertheless, we are confident his return is near at hand. The Fiction staff at Red Fez continued on with much diligence to present the fine work of Lana Casiello-Boyle, Mike Hancock, Carissa Halston, Joel Sweeney and Kathleen Radigan.

The Articles and Reviews section is packed to the gills in this issue with columns by Karl Koweski and Paul Corman-Roberts; reviews by J.A. Tyler, Michael Filippone and Robert Kloss; and non-fiction from Gail Clinton and Ashwin Parulkar.

Girls, guns and hot rods appear in the Art section with photography by Jami Beck.

Last but never least, this issue includes poetry from some of the best scuba divers in the small press. Contributors are Nathan Elias, Hal Daniel, Nicole Taylor, A.J. Huffman, John Dorsey, Dan Provost, Gerald So, Mather Schneider, The Emotional Orphan, John Grey, Brett Stout, Steven Gulvezan, Craig Firsdon, Linda Lerner, M. A. Schaffner, and Charles Clifford Brooks III.

*A note about our programming- I know nothing about programming. Since our Video section decided to go wonky while our fearless yet tired leader Leopold McGinnis is on vacation, one must seek and find the videos for this issue in the Poetry and Stories sections.

About Red Fez Publications:
Red Fez Publications is an online literary journal published monthly. Red Fez features poetry and prose outside of the narrow, academic stream. Red Fez is committed to bringing light to underground and under-recognized writers and writing.
