Artist Tyree Guyton helps homeless in Detroit

Tyree Guyton has transformed social issues into art that is designed to give back to the community. According to the biography posted on his web site, he is "as an urban environmental artist. He has waged a personal war on urban blight on Detroit's East Side, transforming his neighborhood into a living indoor/outdoor art gallery. Through his art, Guyton has drawn attention to the plight of Detroit’s forgotten neighborhoods and spurred discussion and action."

His most recent project, Street Folk, has been awarded a $25,000 Artist Fellowship and he has received approximately 10,000 donated shoes which have been used in it. It is wonderful that he uses his art both to help others in need and  to bring beauty to abandoned buildings.
